Mark Holden applies pressure against Pembury

A disappointing result, and until the last quarter of the match a disappointing performance, against Pembury. Three nil down at half-time, we needed to start the second half as we had against Langney. Instead we conceded a further two goals within five minutes of the restart. Then we started to battle. If we hadn't we would have been buried, and the score for the last 25 minutes of the match was 1-1 - one lucky deflected goal for Pembury and a well-worked goal by Jamie Wickham for us.
On paper, Pembury looked like a team we could compete with, but they are obviously a better side than their league position suggested. I thought they were the best team we've played this season - better than Langney. We couldn't cope with the pace of their front players, and although three of their goals were lucky, the best team won.
Although we had about as much possession as them, they used the ball better than we did. It's quite simple - we need to pass the ball better and to communicate. I've lost count of the number of times our players have attempted to communicate using ESP rather than shouting and lost the ball as a result. We either have two people going for the same ball or two people leaving it to each other and neither going for it.
We can't really use the excuse of being new to 11-a-side football any more - these are just basic faults which would affect any type of football. We need to put it right before we can expect to win anything.
On the positive side, Jamie Hards had a good game in goal. Man of the match Tom Ryan was magnificent in defence, tackling strongly and bringing the ball forward. James Hutchinson was one of the few players who put his foot on the ball and looked for a pass, rather than giving the ball away without looking. Jake Wesley made some good runs down the right flank and Jack Holden did the same on the left.
