A magnificent performance against Uckfield United. The defending, the passing and the finishing were all superb from start to finish.
The early stages of the match were fairly even and it took a while to make the breakthrough. The Uckfield goalkeeper fumbled a shot from Chris Newbury to give us the lead. We began to assert ourselves more and two goals from Chris Newble followed. Then Chris Phillips weighed in with his first goal for the team. When Chris Newbury scored his second to put us 5-0 up I thought I must be dreaming. In three previous encounters there had only been one goal between the teams. Ross McCarter then scored with an exquisite chip to prove that boys not called Chris were also allowed to score and we were 6-0 up at half-time.
The second half was a lot closer, but we continued to dominate and create all the chances, with Tom Ryan and Martin Hill rebuffing all Uckfield's attacks. Eventually Michael Ide got on the scoresheet after a lean spell and Chris Phillips scored with a great shot to give us a 8-0 win.
There were so many great performances, but Martin Hill was chosen as man-of-the-match.
