A very professional performance in the first part of our double header against Crowborough Town. We had thirty minutes less than normal to score our goals, but we still managed to rack up our highest ever score.
Ross McCarter opened the scoring after 4 minutes, before adding another thirty seconds later after good work from Chris Newble, who scored himself in the next minute. Ross completed his hat-trick in the ninth minute.
Chris Newbury was bossing the midfield and he got forward in the 12th minute to score his first goal. Further goals for Ross McCarter and Chris Phillips followed at one-minute intervals, before Ross scored his fifth and Chris Newbury lashed in his second to give us a 9-0 lead at half-time after only twenty minutes of football.
Ross McCarter was rested at half-time and he made way for Michael Ide, whose position as top goalscorer he had overtaken.
Despite Crowborough kicking off, Chris Newbury managed to score his third and our tenth after only twenty seconds of the second half. Six minutes later he scored his fourth after more good work from Chris Newble. Michael Ide got on the scoresheet after 31 minutes and Chris Newble scored his second, before the biggest cheer of the day greeted Dan Tester's first goal for the team. Chris Newbury equalled Ross McCarter's five-goal haul when he scored in the last minute to give us a record 15-0 victory.
There were lots of great performances. The passing was slick and intelligent, we closed down quickly and the finishing was outstanding. Jamie Hards kept his concentration well and had to save a free kick in the second half. With the full-backs playing as wing-backs Tom Ryan and Martin Hill had a chance to show that they're probably the best central defensive partnership in the division. It was tough on Ross McCarter after his five goals in 20 minutes, but Chris Newbury was chosen as man of the match as, apart from his five goals, it was his strong tackling and running and incisive passing that created many of the other ten goals. |
