A difficult match against a very strong Broad Oak and Horam team on a big boggy pitch. We had to soak up a lot of pressure and although there were some good battling performances, we were unable to get our passing together and spent much of the match in our own half.
We were only 2-0 down at half time, but we hadn't really created anything. We continued to battle well in the second half, but it wasn't until we were 5-0 down that we began to take the game to Broad Oak, particularly through Greg Byrne who started winning more of the ball in midfield. Jake Wesley had a good chance for a consolation goal, but the goalkeeper came out well to smother. Eventually Broad Oak regained control and got the sixth goal.
Broad Oak's players were generally bigger and stronger than ours and more suited to the conditions. The pace of our front players was less evident on a large pitch than it had been on the smaller pitch at Uckfield last week.
Martin Hill was man of the match for another commanding performance in defence. |
