We had a bit of a lopsided team for our first tournament of the season, at Crowborough, with neither of our main defenders Tom Ryan nor Martin Hill available.

Our first game was against a very strong, tall Crowborough Athletic side. We lost 1-0, as their front two combined well, but Ben Spring and Greg Byrne kept them under control after the goal and it wasn't a bad result.

When we went 1-0 down against Ridgewaye early in the second match, we thought it might be one of those days, but Ross McCarter scored twice in the second half, and we could easily have had three or four more, such was our domination.

We then drew 0-0 with Langton Green. That put us third in the group but we needed to beat Seal who were in 2nd place to have any chance of qualifying for the semi-finals.

We conceded two goals, but we came back strongly through Chris Newbury and had further chances. We lost 2-1, but Seal went on to win the tournament, which puts our result in perspective.

The last match, against Jarvis Brook, was played after the players had been standing around for a long time after getting soaked in heavy showers, and with best players left out to make up for earlier selections and others playing out of position, we lost the game 2-0.

Ross McCarter was chosen as man-of-the-match for the two goals that turned our match against Ridgewaye.
