Had a good workout in a friendly against a Tonbridge Invicta side that featured old boys Oliver Leigh, Dave Kinderman and Matt Thompson. It was a good opportunity to have a look at the three new signings Jack Gill, Josh Marshall and Dan Stoate.
We started tentatively with a few players looking very rusty but began to create some good moves. We took the lead after 17 minutes when last season's top scorer Ben Spring produced a powerful finish after great work on the left by Jamie Wickham.
As the opportunity to try players in different positions was more important than the result, we made three immediate changes, including bringing off the captain and goalscorer, and conceded an equaliser when the referee failed to spot a push.
Tom Ryan and Greg Byrne, the defensive spine of the team, picked up injuries and were unable to play in the second half, which left us exposed at the back. We continued to create chances, but conceded two goals in the second half.
All three new boys made promising starts and there were lots of good performances but Ben Spring was chosen as man of the match. |
