GUEST MATCH REPORT by DAVE SPRING
(based on notes from Jamie's dad)
(Ollie absent - stuck on M25) - so all 13 got a game
This was a game we expected to win, conditions were perfect and Cranbrook had only 10 players. As well as ending up 14-3 winners we played skilfully and intelligently, frequently attacking the Cranbrook goal, and looking like we still wanted to fight for more goals, even though victory was assured. Our defence prevented most of the Cranbrook attacks achieving anything.
All our goals were good, especially a netbuster from Ben, a lovely chip from Mike, and a wonderful header from Nick off Ben's corner. At half time it was 10-1, with goals coming from Ross, Ben, Ben (o.g. from corner), Mike, Ross, Mike, o.g., Nick, Ross, Ben.
The second half was quieter, and after a fine volley into the net from Ross off Ben's corner, several of our attacks were close but just outside the woodwork. Jamie had little to do but an unexpected long high kick pulled one back for Cranbrook. Play stayed mostly in their half, and our two subs, Jack Holden and Chris Phillips, were often in the action, and unlucky not to score, though they helped others to. Chris Newbury played well as usual but somehow this was not the week to add to his tally. By the end our scorers were Ross, Ross, Ben, Mike.
Good performance from everyone. Ben was awarded Man of the Match for his play and good vocal work as captain.
