After beating league leaders Tenterden the previous week, Tonbridge Juniors were full of confidence against the bottom team, Paddock Wood, and produced a very professional performance. Almost more pleasing than the goals and the clean sheet was the way they responded to the intimidation by the Paddock Wood number 6 and let their football do the talking.

Despite Greg Byrne being away, Tonbridge won the lion's share of the possession, but the finishing was a little lacklustre. The deadlock was finally broken in the tenth minute when a Ross McCarter shot was deflected in off the toe of Chris Phillips. Two minutes later a Chris Newbury shot was cleared, but the referee spotted that it had already crossed the line. A further two minutes later Ross McCarter got to a mishit shot by Mike Ide to make it 3-0.

Then followed 16 minutes without a goal, but Chris Phillips got his second with considerable assistance from a Paddock Wood defender. Shortly afterwards the referee spotted Chris Newbury being pulled back in the area and awarded a penalty. Jamie Wickham grabbed the ball off usual penalty-taker Ben Spring and although the Paddock Wood goalkeeper got to the ball, the shot was too powerful to keep out. Jamie Wickham then got his second in the 38th minute. In the last minute of the half Jack Holden played a great through ball for Ross McCarter to run onto but the Paddock Wood defender hit it past his own keeper. 7-0 at half-time; an identical scoreline to the home fixture against Paddock Wood.

Three minutes into the second half Chris Newbury got the 8th goal with a well-placed shot to the left of the Paddock Wood keeper. Captain Ben Spring finally got on the scoresheet in the 51st minute when he got to a Chris Phillips cross, and Jamie Wickham completed his hat-trick two minutes later. Ross McCarter had been carrying a knock for half an hour and his second goal in the sixtieth minute was the cue to replace him.

Jamie Wickham scored the goal of the game in the 68th minute: a powerful left-foot shot that curled inside the far post, giving the goalkeeper no chance. The 72nd minute saw a collector's item, a goal from Chris Stewart. He was unlucky not to get his second a few minutes later. Ben Spring scored again in the 73rd and 76th minutes to complete his hat-trick.

Mike Ide finally ended his goal drought in the 78th minute and two minutes later he scored again with a close-range header after the Paddock Wood goalkeeper could only parry a powerful shot from Max Turner. Ben Spring completed the scoring in the last minute with a penalty after a Paddock Wood defender had been yellow-carded for a rash challenge in the area.

A very good performance all round. James Faulkner kept his concentration well. The back-three all defended well when they had to and passed the ball out of defence rather than just hoofing it. The midfield all played well and several players had to play out of their usual positions. Jamie Wickham was particularly effective on the left and showed increasing maturity as he dropped in to cover left-back Jack Holden when he went forward. Chris Newbury provided his usual incisive passing and powerful runs. Max Turner did a particularly good job when he moved into Greg Byrne's usual position and was unlucky not to get on the scoresheet a couple of times. Ross McCarter was brave and battled on despite a number of knocks. Man-of-the-match was a difficult decision, but Chris Stewart was chosen for an excellent performance - after coming on after 20 minutes he kept his position well and never played an aimless ball, always looking to find a Tonbridge player with a simple pass.
