We didn't have to wait as long this season for our first league win, but again it was an away match at Uckfield that gave us our first points of the campaign.
With Ben Spring and Jack Holden injured, and Jamie Wickham apparently fit but AWOL, James Hutchinson agreed to play to make up the numbers, but he had a part in our first two goals.
We started the game strongly, with new signing Chris Newble (from Tonbridge Juniors) running at the Uckfield defence. A foul on James Hutchinson led to a Tom Ryan free kick which the goalkeeper could not hold and Chris Nissen was on hand to score his first goal for the team.
Our second goal came from a James Hutchinson cross which the Uckfield goalkeeper could only parry into the path of Michael Ide. We created numerous other chances in the first half, but rather against the run of play Uckfield got a goal back just before half time.
We continued to create chances in the second half, but it was Uckfield who scored the next goal, which was gifted to them when Jamie Hards misjudged the bounce, but we scored our third almost immediately, Nick Edwards scoring with a shot that went in off the post after another bout of penalty area pinball.
We held on to win 3-2, not without the odd scare. Chris Newble was man-of-the-match for a very promising debut.
