A very disappointing result, but one we can put down to experience. It must be remembered that Langton Green have been playing 11-a-side football as a team since February, while this was our first competitive 11-a-side game, and we have players from four different teams playing together for the first time.
I thought it didn't help that people were playing out of position. We had a much better shape in the second half. We're all still learning, but I think the boys have to learn to play a certain position over a long period and not be changed round from week to week. As we've conceded 14 goals in two games, we need to sort the defending out first and build from there.
I was encouraged that the boys never lost heart and continued to work hard until the final whistle. We were unlucky not to get any goals from the chances we created, but I hope to put that right next week.
We need to work on goal kicks, which should be an opportunity to build attacks, not to present a goalscoring opportunity to the opposition, which happened on several occasions this week. We passed the ball well at times, but often players passed without looking up when we had players in good positions.
Greg Byrne was man-of-the-match for a typically gutsy and hard-working performance in midfield.
