We produced our worst performance of the season, losing 4-1 to Foresters 2000 at home.
We started the game brightly enough and had most of the possession and territorial advantage, but no one was willing or able to shoot for goal, always looking for an extra touch or an extra pass.
Against the run of play, Foresters went ahead after 23 minutes, when they got a free kick outside the box, and although Jamie Hards made a save, somehow the ball went over the line.
New signing Michael Ide came on at half time and made some impressive runs, but we started to lose the game in midfield. Foresters went 2-0 up after James Hutchinson and Jack Holden decided to play "after you" - our favourite trick, where rather than shouting to each other they decided to leave it for a Foresters player to make a run on goal. Tonbridge heads dropped and Foresters suddenly became confident. They were first to every ball and our midfield let them run the game. They added two more goals, the second of which was a rather lucky up-and-under, before Michael Ide got what proved to be a consolation goal after 16 minutes of the second half.
Michael Ide was awarded man of the match, for a promising debut, but there wasn't much competition. There were too many lacklustre performances. |
