An absolutely fantastic performance. It may have been a defeat, but it was a glorious one.
Despite the appalling weather, despite being without two of our back four and our most defensive midfielder, despite the fact that we were facing the league leaders who had beaten Foresters 2000 13-0, we put on a great performance. When Jake Wesley scored his two goals early in the second half, Langney were definitely on the ropes. Who knows what might have happened if we had scored the third goal at that stage?
We had to do a lot of defending in the first half and our reshaped defence coped well, while we created some chances ourselves. 2-0 down at half time was much better than I could have hoped for before the game.
We began the second half so well, and put the Langney defence under pressure from the kick off. Jake Wesley scored two great goals, the second being a lovely lob over the keeper. Langney came back strongly after recovering from the shock of being outplayed for probably the first time this season, and scored four more goals, including a penalty .
There were lots of great performances. Jamie Hards made some great saves. Mark Holden and Ben Spring were strong at the back, and the stand-in defenders David Hartfield and Mark Harrison coped well. Jamie Wickham was full of running as ever. Man of the match was Jake Wesley. Apart from his two well-taken goals, he worked hard, making intelligent runs and coming back to help the midfield when we didn't have the ball. He won't be substituted very often if he plays like that every week.
