A corner spells danger for the Cranbrook defence

We achieved our goal of winning successive league matches for the first time with a 4-1 victory away to Cranbrook Town Colts, but although the home side battled well our finishing meant that the scoreline flattered them.
It took a while before we started to control the game. We were very sluggish and it took a Cranbrook goal to bring us to life. Martin Hill misjudged a header and a Cranbrook forward nipped in before Tom Ryan could clear.
We struck back almost immediately when Mike Ide volleyed a high cross from Chris Newbury, and we took the lead shortly afterwards when Mike Ide got his second after some sustained pressure.
Chris Newble was put through and despite a hint of offside he scored the third, before Ross McCarter made it four with a cool finish.
We started the second half even more in control, as Greg Byrne reacted to being rested for the first half with a bustling performance, but the finishing never matched the approach play and player after player shot wide or over. Ben Spring continued to supply a series of fine corners, but no one got on the end of them.
Cranbrook never really threatened, but we couldn't turn our total domination into goals. When we did get a decent shot on target the Cranbrook keeper Daniel Chandler made some fine saves. In the dying minutes of the match Cranbrook's Sam Wyatt was sent off for kicking out at Greg Byrne off-the-ball.
Ben Spring was awarded man-of-the-match.
