Tom Ryan shows typical determination against Uckfield

A much better performance in our first home league match, against Uckfield United. If we had taken our chances we might have won 8-4, but we lost 4-2, having twice closed the gap to one goal behind.
We started brightly and had a much better shape than in our match against Langton Green. We created numerous chances, but against the run of play we conceded a breakaway goal and went further behind later, so we were 2-0 down at half-time.
We dominated much of the second half and got our reward with a superb shot from Ben Spring that gave the Uckfield goalkeeper no chance. Breaks from Jamie Wickham and Mark Harrison ended in disappointment when the shot was delayed a little too long and we went 3-1 behind, but we continued to put the Uckfield defence under pressure and Mark Harrison scored our second after good work from Jamie Wickham. In the last minutes we continued to press for an equaliser, but conceded another goal.
All in all a very encouraging performance, with a fantastic effort from all the boys. Man-of-the-match was very close, with all four defenders and Greg Byrne in contention, but Thomas Ryan was chosen for a typically dogged performance.
It was only our second competitive 11-a-side match, against another more experienced team, and if we carry on improving we'll soon start to get the results we deserve.
