Ben Spring converts a spot kick to give us the lead against Wealden

A good performance away to Wealden Colts in our last league match of the season.
A draw was a fair result, as although we dominated the first half we didn't really trouble their goalkeeper enough, and we were hanging on in the last ten minutes as the big sandy pitch took its toll.
We missed the presence of Chris Newbury in central midfield, but the players coped well in unaccustomed positions. Mark Holden moved into central defence to take Martin Hill's place and Dan Tester pushed up into midfield.
We took the lead from the penalty spot in the first half after the Wealden goalkeeper failed to hold a cross and one of his defenders showed him how it should be done. Ben Spring calmly placed the ball to the right of the keeper.
Wealden were stronger in the second half and deserved their equaliser, following a great through ball and a good finish.
There were quite a lot of late challenges and Tom Ryan took a few of them, but I'd put it down more to clumsiness than malice.
Wealden thought they had snatched the winner near the end, but the goal was disallowed for a push on Chris Stewart.
Tom Ryan produced another immense performance in central defence, but man-of-the-match was awarded to Jack Holden who played out of his skin and stuck to his defensive responsibilities well.
