Mark Harrison clears the danger against East Grinstead Town

A wonderfully committed performance from the ten boys who played against East Grinstead.

Another match in which the scoreline did not accurately reflect the balance of play.

Having to play against the team which clinched the A division championship last week, I would have accepted a 6-0 defeat before the match. Particularly as we had only ten players - only nine when we kicked off.

Apart from our numerical disadvantage and the fact that we were playing a team 14 league places above us, we were also missing our best defender (Tom Ryan) and our top goalscorer (Jamie Wickham).

We conceded three goals in each half, but unfortunately they can all be put down to individual errors, rather than the brilliance of the opposition play.

What was particularly pleasing was that we continued to play football and often outpassed East Grinstead, rather than playing hit and hope, understandable as it might have been in the circumstances.

The midfield trio of Greg Byrne, Chris Nissen and Ben Spring have given us a stronger heart, and Jack Holden and Mark Harrison are continuing to adapt to their new defensive roles. James Hutchinson was awarded man of the match for an assured performance in central defence, where he had the unenviable task of standing in for Tom Ryan.
